Rev. Pastor Keylon RetirementGlen Keylon, 67

ST. PAUL — The Rev. Glen D. Keylon, pastor emeritus, St. Paul, was called from this life on Jan. 2, 2016, at the age of 67.

He was born on July 4, 1948, to Howard Glen and Selma Elizabeth (Mitchell) Keylon in Texhoma, Okla. He was baptized at Texhoma United Methodist Church and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Texhoma. After graduation from Texhoma High School in 1966, he attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University of Goodwell, Okla., and graduated in 1970. Glen then began farming on the Keylon family farm north of Texhoma. He graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo., in May of 1993, and was ordained into the pastoral ministry on July 4, 1993, at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Texhoma.

Pastor Keylon served the following congregations during his ministry: Trinity Lutheran Church Marcus, Iowa, and Pilgrim Lutheran Church Quimby, Iowa, from August 1993 to March 1998. He then accepted a call to serve Christ Lutheran Church, Cairo, where he served from March 1998 until his retirement on Dec. 31, 2014. He also served the Lord’s church in various capacities, including as a circuit counselor for the Grand Island Circuit, PALS facilitator and board member of Heartland Lutheran High School in Grand Island.

His God-given passions in ministry were the Lutheran Charities Comfort Dog Ministries. Glen was also a member of Cairo Rural Volunteer Fire Department for many years. On Dec. 21, 1968, he was married to Blenda Smith at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Texhoma. To this union were born five children.

Pastor Keylon is survived by his wife, Blenda, of St. Paul; his children, Kelly (Britni) Keylon of Texhoma, Koey (Michelle) Keylon of Edmond, Okla., Kasey (Carrie) Keylon of St. Paul, Kameron (Jamie) Keylon of Texhoma and Kassidy (Brent) Gascho of Wood River; and grandchildren, Kyle (and wife, Rachel), Brianna, Kooper, Kolton, Kinley, Kiefer, Karson, Krystin, Kori, Brayden, Kennedy, Harley, Kyson and a grandchild to be born in July; his mother, Selma; two sisters, Tekla Keylon of Sand Springs, Okla., and Della (Emet) Callaway of Mannford, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard, and a grandson, Kody.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo.

The Christian memorial service for Pastor Keylon will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo.

Memorials have been established for a Scholarship fund for congregations beginning a Comfort Dog Ministry, Heartland Lutheran High School of Grand Island and Shepherd’s Canyon Retreat of Phoenix, Ariz.

The family requests that memorials be given instead of flowers.
