Lutheran Women in Mission
The power of God is evident in the dimes and quarters you put in your Mite Box and this is celebrated each fall on LWML Sunday. We thank you for your support of LWML. Read our LWML Vision Statement: “The LWML is the leading group for LCMS women where each woman is welcomed and encouraged to use her unique God-given gifts as she supports global missions and serves the Lord with gladness.” This is what LWML (Lutheran Women in Mission) has been doing for 78 years and will continue to do with the help of the Holy Spirit and your support.

LWML Mite Boxes — What Does This Mean?
Over the years, Lutheran Women in Mission have used the Mite Box to gather funds in support of national and district ministries through voluntary offerings. Instead of “Mite Boxes,” some groups called their ingathering devices “blessing boxes,” “mission boxes,” or “thank offering boxes.”
Place your Mite Box in a visible area as a daily reminder to give thanks for all His blessings:
• Place your offering in the Mite Box at the end of each day.
• Say “thank you” to God with an appropriate amount whenever calamity or misfortune has been averted.
• Empty the loose change from your kitchen coin bowl into the Mite Box each week.
• Put a dollar in the Mite Box for every pair of shoes you own.
• Pay for items with bills, then empty your coins that have gathered in your wallet into your Mite Box.
• In thanksgiving to God, put a dollar into the Mite Box for every family member. Throughout the decades, Lutheran women have stepped out in faith, setting goals and trusting God to move the hearts of His people to give generously to LWML’s mission of proclaiming the Gospel.

Mission Grant Stories
LWML Sunday is celebrated each fall. Through your mite offerings, LWML supports mission work all around the world. One of this biennium’s mission grants is $100,000 to Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots (LAMP). This grant allows LAMP to hire more missionary pilots and train more volunteers so that people in remote communities in northern Canada and Alaska will receive a Christian education and the witness of the Gospel. See what your mite donation is doing in our complete list of mission grants on the LWML website under the “Missions” tab at www.lwml.org.

Mite Box Designs Change with the Times
Mite Boxes have changed in color and design over the years, but what has never changed is the dedication of freely given offerings to reach out to others with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Districts retain 75% of mite offerings for their work, with 25% set aside for national LWML. Based on the Biblical account of the widow’s mite (Mark 12:41-43), the Mite Box is intended for regular contributions of “mites” — offerings above and beyond the support given to the congregation and the Synod. Mite Box contributions amount to millions of dollars that fund district and national mission grants. The LWML has collected over 127 million dollars since 1942. Yes — these coins have, and will, continue to make a difference. Thank you for contributing to the Mite Box and providing the opportunity for us to spread the Gospel to the world.

The Widow’s Mite
Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth, but she, out of her poverty, put in everything — all she had to live on” (Mark 12:41-43 NIV).
